How to Become a Private PilotBecoming a private pilot is the first step in any aviation career, and you can obtain your certification in as little as three months.
Although you can start your training earlier, you must be at least 16 years old to complete solo flights. You must be at least 17 to obtain your certification. You must be healthy enough to obtain an FAA-approved medical certification. You must be fluent in English and able to perform basic math calculations.
You must complete a minimum number of classroom instruction hours as well as dual and solo flight hours. Finally, you must pass written and practical tests. Once that’s done, you’re officially a private pilot!
How to Become a Commercial Pilot
How to Become a Commercial PilotThe steps and requirements for becoming a commercial pilot are much like those for getting your private pilot license – there are simply more of them.
You must be 18 and have your FAA medical certificate. You must be able to speak, read and write fluent English and perform basic math calculations. If you already have your private flight certification and instrument rating, you need approximately 120 hours of simulated, dual and solo fight time and 36 hours of classroom instruction. Most students complete their program in about three months.
If you don’t have your private pilot license, you can skip straight to getting a commercial certification in as little as 10 months
