PREREQUISITES AND REQUIREMENTS FAQS

If you’re new to the world of flying, you probably have a lot of questions. Here are some of the frequently asked questions from prospective pilots regarding what experience, if any, they need to attend flight training with FLT Academy.

Absolutely not! We don’t require any previous training to enroll.

If you have previous certificate, ratings, or experience training, it needs to be verified. FLT may review your logbook, prior training, and pilot certificate. A face-to-face review with one of our chief pilots can ensure you’re not repeating unnecessary training or missing anything.

Yes, all flight training is in person at the FLT flight school. Ground schools are also held in person, with online attendance via live-stream available under certain circumstances.

To fly as a hobby, you only need training and certification as a private pilot. To make money or otherwise be compensated as a pilot, you will need to obtain a commercial pilot license. To obtain your commercial license you will need to fulfill additional training and flight experience requirements.

You can see a full list of requirements for the career track program HERE. Some of the minimum requirements include:

  • 18 years of age
  • High school diploma
  • FAA 1st Class Medical Certificate
  • Background Check

FLT Academy starts new students each month.  Before prospective students can be assigned a training start date, they must meet with a program advisor for a consultation, obtain all required documentation, submit a training application, and complete their FLT Academy interview.

Our Career-Track program is designed to take 15 months. This is not an as-best-as or as-soon-as estimate; it is a realistic expectation our students can anticipate based off what past students have needed to complete the Career-Track Program. This timeframe adds in some cushion for the unexpected delays typical to aviation, such as weather or maintenance.
