What to Expect During Your Flight Training

Like any career move, the decision to enroll in flight school isn’t one to be taken lightly. Each student must be entirely committed and all-in from day one. Whether or not the program is accelerated proper attention needs to be paid during every moment of instruction. In order to encourage greater success while instilling confidence in each future pilot, the journey begins in the air, on an introductory flight.

Come Take an Introductory Flight

An intro flight is the perfect kickstart to following your aviation dreams. This hands-on experience involves spending time in the sky with one of our certified flight instructors. Your instructor will explain the basics of flight, safety, and emergency protocol as you enjoy a birds-eye view of the ground below. Take the controls for yourself and get a feel for what it’s like to pilot an aircraft.

We encourage anyone with an interest in aviation to experience an Introductory Flight. You can find more information here.

Enrollment

Once you have made the decision to begin flight training, you will be greeted by our enrollment team who will help you with the logistics. Currently, we offer several financing options for students who would like to pay for their schooling over time. You can learn more about financing here. At the end of the day, achieving your dreams of flying is not as expensive as you might think. Getting a pilot’s license is an investment that will last a lifetime.

Of course, the breadth of your training will depend on the program you choose. We currently offer the following flight training programs:

  • FLT Zero to Commercial
  • FLT Zero to 500 Hour Program
  • Private Pilot
  • Instrument Rating
  • Commercial Pilot (Standard)
  • Multi-Engine
  • Flight Instructor
  • Instrument Instructor
  • Multi-Engine Instructor

Depending on the program, you should expect to dedicate anywhere between 3 and 24 months to your training.

On the Ground

Most pilot programs will require a certain amount of classroom instruction. This instruction will prepare students for the written tests required for licensing. At FLT Academy, we have dedicated classrooms, instruction areas, and experienced instructors who will help you learn all the basics and more. Proficiency on the ground will carry over into the air when you take the seat behind the aircraft controls and eventually undergo your checkride.

In the Simulator

FLT Academy students have access to incredible flight simulation technology. The simulator we use is the full-motion RedBird FMX. Such technology allows future pilots to experience a number of different weather conditions and even prepare for emergency situations that are hazardous to practice in real aircraft. Such situations include engine failures, power outages, equipment malfunctions, and more. Our simulators also have removable panels to match every aircraft in our fleet.

Students should expect to spend a good deal of time in the simulator prior to starting and throughout their in-air training. This will benefit their instincts and emergency preparedness.

Flight Time

Not surprisingly, a future pilot will spend a good deal of time in the sky, acquiring experience and logging flight time. This time will be split between dual and solo flights. At first, students will be accompanied by their FLT Academy instructor, then they will complete a number of flights on their own. When you have gained enough experience, you’ll be ready for your FAA checkride where your flying abilities and aviation knowledge will be formally tested. Once all tests and hours are logged and completed, you will receive your certification— an unforgettable achievement for any pilot! At that point, you will be ready to begin the next phase of your aviation journey.
